ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Mrs. Christen Brown « Teacher Connection / Documents / Calendar

Dear Kindergarten Families,

The first day of school was so much fun!  I enjoyed getting to know each of your boys and girls and I'm excited to get to know them better over the next few months that we spent together.  Thank you so much for all of the supplies and goodies for our classroom.  It is with your kindness and genorosity that we get to have all of the tools we need to learn and thrive together...so thanks so much!

--->Important dates coming up!

8/20- Open House.  I will send home a note about Open House, but Open House is a night for PARENTS only.  We will discuss topics like our schedule, classroom expectations, Accelerated Reading, and the basic about your child's classroom and school experience.

8/22- Picture Day!  We will have Lifetouch come to our school to take your child's picture.  Uniforms are required as this will be the picture that goes in our yearbook.  Please look for order forms coming home.

Here are a few reminders to help answer any questions you may have...

Snack:  We will have a snack time everyday around 9:30.  Please send in something that is nutrious and easy to manage.  If a utensil is needed to consume the snack, please pack that as well.  Children are unable to refridgerate items and drinks are not neccessary.  We have a water fountain in our classroom, that they have access to whenever they need to hydrate.  Please remind children where the snack item is located in their backpack, as unpacking their snack is one of their morning procedures they will learn to do every morning.  Also, please do not store items in a lunchbox, it is helpful to store it separate from their lunch.  If you store items in a lunchbox, sometimes children get confused and think they've packed a lunch for the day and could potentially make an incorrect lunch choice for the day.  :( Please put it in a baggy labeled with your child's name, so when they get their snack from the snack box, they get the correct snack.

Rest time:  We will have a rest time every afternoon.  Children will get their mats from their cubbies and lay down and rest for a period of time everyday.  To help students get comfy, they are invited to bring a small blanket or towel to keep in their cubbies to cover up with.  Please make sure it is not a large blanket, as space is limited in their cubbies.  Please label his/her blanket or towel with your child's name.  I will send it home every Friday in your child's backpack to be washed and returned the following Monday.

Take Home Folders:  The white take home folders are to be returned to school everyday in your child's backpack.  Please review your child's behavior calendar (more info to come) and look at any notes I may have written inside your child's agenda planner.  Please initial both areas, the behavior calendar AND the agenda planner so I know you've reviewed both.  Also, it is very important to write in your child's agenda planner how your child will be getting home for the day.  I have no way of knowing except from you.  It is extremely important for me to get your child to the correct place.  So, please write either CARLINE or AFTERCARE in your child's folder.  We review this every morning and note it for the afternoon.  If you need to make any changes for your child's dismissal, please contact the front office and a message will be relayed to me.  Your child's work they complete will be located in the back pocket.  Also, any notes from school will be located back there.  Please check it daily and take out all documents.  If something needs to be completed and returned, it will be located in the front pocket.  If you are sending in money, please send it in a sealed baggy or envelope labeled with your child's name and what the money is for.  I want to make sure it goes exactly where you want it to go, this is very important to me.

Jackets:  Sometimes the classroom and lunchroom can get chilly, so if you permit your child to bring a school approved jacket to school, please make sure you label your child's jacket with your child's name.  I try to foster responsibity and remind children to keep track of their items, it is so much easier if a name is located somewhere in the jacket.  Since all school jackets look similar, lost jackets can sometimes be tricky to recover if there is no identification on it.  So, please label your child's items.

Schedules:  I will post our daily schedule as soon as it is approved.  Please be sure to reference the bottom portion of our website for important documents pertaining to our classroom.

I appreciate you taking the time to visit our class website.  I like to update it every week just to keep you in the know of what's going on in our classroom.  As always, please feel free to write a note in your child's agenda (right side please), send an email (I check it multiple times throughout the day), or phone me for any concerns you may have about your child or your child's day.  Communication is extremely important to me and an essential part of our school to home success.  My email is christen.wilkinson@tvcs.org  Please put "student" in the subject line to ensure it does not get filtered to a spam folder.

Thanks so much and I look forward to a wonderful year together!  See your smiling faces in room 431!  Go Buffalo!

Love,

Christen Wilkinson :)
